Clinical Practice

I spend the majority of my working time in academia. I also practise clinically as a Consultant in Medical Virology – this is a diagnostic specialty, where most of the work involves supporting diagnostic laboratory operations, giving clinical advice to patient-facing colleages (over the telephone and face-to-face at formal meetings and on the ward), supporting infection prevention and control work, and supporting health protection work. Some of my colleagues undertake outpatient clinics and additionally practise on the ward as Consultants in Infectious Diseases – although I qualified to do this, I have not managed to find enough hours in the day to keep up that aspect of my practice (which means I appreciate all the more having people who do that as colleagues!).

Careers Posters

In March 2026, I made some posters advertising some of the infection specialties for the careers evening our local clinical school ran for students. Versions of these are here in case of use to people in their own places. They are most relevant to UK medical students. I have linked to pdf versions, but some poster printers prefer Powerpoint (which is the underlying format of these), so feel free to contact me if you would like a copy in this form (I have not put them online because they would take quite a bit of my filespace allocation).

You are welcome to use these for your own clinical recruitment purposes (and do so with the permission of the copyright holders of the photographs). For avoidance of doubt, you may use these documents under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence. If this licence does not cover your intended purpose, or the files are out of date and you would like to update them, I am likely to be able to help – do contact me.

The underlying files for both posters are designed for A0 printing.
